Privacy notice

This notice explains what personal information Eldervell collects, why it is used, who it may be shared with, and the choices you have.

Who we are

Eldervell is a trading name of Ollinton Ltd, a company registered in England and Wales (company no. 17060543). Registered office: 128 City Road, London EC1V 2NX, United Kingdom.

Ollinton Ltd is the controller of the personal information described in this notice. Ollinton Ltd is registered with the Information Commissioner's Office under reference ZC099703. You can contact us at eldervell@ollinton.com.

Information we collect

We collect only the information needed to provide, protect and support Eldervell:

  • Account information. When you sign in with Google, we receive your email address, display name, profile picture URL and an account identifier. Google does not give us your password.
  • Your Eldervell content. This includes the books you add, reading statuses and dates, ratings, reviews, notes, tags, goals, lists, reading plans, series information, book edits and other information you choose to save.
  • Technical and security information. We keep limited records needed to maintain sessions, apply rate limits, investigate errors and protect the service. These can include an account identifier, request route, timestamp and diagnostic error details. Our hosting and authentication providers may also process your IP address, browser or device information and access times in their service logs.
  • Messages you send us. If you contact us, we receive the information in your message and the details needed to reply.

Custom cover uploads

If you upload a custom book cover, the image is stored in a cover-image bucket and may be accessible to anyone who has its direct URL. Please upload book covers only, and do not upload personal or sensitive images.

How and why we use your information

  • To create and manage your account, save your library and provide the features you request. We do this to perform our contract with you under the Terms.
  • To keep Eldervell secure, prevent misuse, diagnose faults and maintain a reliable service. We do this for our legitimate interests in operating and protecting Eldervell, provided those interests do not override your rights.
  • To answer questions and act on feedback. Depending on the request, this is necessary to perform our contract with you or for our legitimate interests in supporting and improving the service.
  • To meet legal obligations and establish or defend legal claims where necessary.

We do not sell your personal information. We do not use it for advertising, marketing or automated decision-making.

Book information from other services

When you search for, add or refresh a book, Eldervell may send a title, author, ISBN or other book metadata to external book-data providers. A text-processing provider may occasionally process a book blurb or title to clean its formatting. We do not include your Eldervell account details in these requests.

Who we share information with

Information is shared only where needed with service providers that support sign-in, hosting, database and file storage, book metadata and text processing. They process information under their own terms and, where applicable, our agreements with them. We may also disclose information:

  • to professional advisers who owe duties of confidentiality;
  • where the law, a court or a regulator requires it;
  • to protect the rights, safety or security of Eldervell, its users or others; or
  • as part of a sale, restructuring or transfer of the service, subject to appropriate confidentiality and data protection safeguards.

Cookies and local storage

Eldervell uses essential session cookies to keep you signed in and protect your account. Some display and filter preferences are saved in your browser's local storage so the app can remember them on that device. Eldervell does not currently use advertising cookies or third-party analytics.

International processing

Our service providers may process information outside the United Kingdom. Where UK data protection law requires it, we use an adequacy decision or approved contractual safeguards designed to protect that information.

How long we keep information

We normally keep your account and Eldervell content while your account remains active. Rate-limit records are normally removed after about one day, and application error records after up to 90 days. We keep correspondence only as long as needed to handle the matter and meet legal obligations.

If you ask us to delete your account, we aim to remove active account data within 30 days. Residual copies may remain in encrypted provider backups until those backups are overwritten under their normal retention schedules.

Security

We use technical and organisational measures intended to protect your information, including authenticated access and controls that separate each user's library data. No online service can promise absolute security, so please protect your Google account and tell us promptly if you suspect unauthorised access.

Your choices and rights

You can export your library from the user menu. You may also ask us for access to, correction of, deletion of, restriction of or a portable copy of your personal information. You may object where we rely on legitimate interests. These rights can be limited in some circumstances by law.

To exercise a right or ask us to delete your account, email eldervell@ollinton.com. We may need to verify your identity before acting on a request.

If you are unhappy with how we use your information, please contact us first so we can try to resolve it. You also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner's Office.

Age requirement

Eldervell is intended for people aged 18 and over. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18. If you believe a child has created an account, please contact us.

Changes to this notice

We may update this notice when Eldervell or the law changes. We will update the date at the top and give reasonable notice of material changes where appropriate.
